Afro Samurai is back with a film!

Afro Samurai Director's Cut DVD

I first heard about Afro Samurai while I was working at my first PR firm in the Interactive (video games) department.  The popular soulful hip-hop meets Japanese culture manga series, written and illustrated by Takashi Okazaki, was made into a video game.  But that’s not how or why I became familiar with the über violent toon.  RZA produced both soundtracks for the Afro Samurai TV series and TV-movie sequel Afro Samurai: Resurrection that had the music and urban world buzzing.  I was and still am active in both those worlds.

The manga, TV series and a TV-movie came and went leaving fans hungry for more and wandering aimlessly in search for something to fill in that bloodthirsty void.  Or was that just me?  In any case, we no longer have to “wish upon a star” because The Indomina Group, the fast-growing U.S. and Dominican Republic based producer and distributor of film, TV and trans-media content, and actor Samuel L. Jackson made an announcement today that they’ve partnered up for the first live action Afro Samurai film.  YES!  A few weeks ago I found out that the niche franchise was coming back but I had to hush until today, which is also the first day of San Diego’s Comic Con (sidenote: make sure to stop by Indomina’s booth – #4445 – next to G4TV for some Afro Samurai SWAG!).  Those endless nights of clinging onto my Afro Samurai Director’s Cut DVD wishing for something more is now long gone.
